How Lasers Remove Hair
The laser targets energy at the pigment in the hair follicles.
The follicles absorb the heat, which destroys the surrounding cells.
The hair is eliminated and, with a series of treatments, should not grow back.
Laser hair removal is safe for all skin types, hair types, and body locations as well as most hair colors. Treatment is long-lasting, predictable, and almost pain-free.
Exploring Laser Hair Removal
If you’re new to laser hair removal, you likely have a lot of questions. During your consultation, your treatment provider offers answers, including information about the process, technology, and outcomes other clients have experienced.
We encourage you to take your time in making a decision about treatment. Developing trust in your provider is just one of the ways we make your care as comfortable as possible.
Typically with laser hair removal, clients choose an area of the body—or several areas—that they would like to treat. This might include:
Buttocks / bikini area
The size and number of the areas, hair color and type, and skin tone affects how long a laser hair removal session takes, but the technology we use significantly decreases the time required.
What You Can Expect with Laser Hair Removal
Before your treatment
Shave the treatment area 12-24 hours beforehand.
Do not wax, pluck, tweeze, use bleaches, or use hair removal creams during your treatment series.
Avoid sun exposure, self-tanners and tanning beds 2-to-3 weeks before treatment.
Use sunblock with SPF 50 on areas to be treated that are exposed to the sun.
Do not take Accutane for 6 months prior to treatment.
Typically, clients have 6-to-8 laser hair removal treatments. This greatly reduces the number of re-growing hairs by 75-90%.* Those with light skin and dark hair typically require fewer sessions.
Laser hair removal takes place in our offices. During the procedure, your treatment provider moves a small handpiece over the target areas. The laser flashes with an intense beam of light, and then the treatment provider moves to the next location. Most of our clients return to normal activity immediately following the procedure.
After Laser Hair Removal
Side effects from laser hair removal are rare, and, if they occur, are usually minor. You may notice redness and swelling around the hair follicles after treatment.
Every person is different and there are several factors that can affect your outcome, but generally, you should see a large reduction in the number of hairs that regrow after each session. Compared to the ongoing and uncomfortable routine of waxing, shaving, or plucking hairs, laser hair removal is an excellent alternative for lasting, smooth results.
