While so many med spas and doctors offices are jumping on the bandwagon and bringing the SkinPen into their practices, it is LUXURY ON LOVERS that WFAA chose to film their segment about the SkinPen. There’s a reason for this.

We have been performing micro-needling in our practice for the past 10 years. The SkinPen is simply superior technology applied to this same procedure. We know how it works, and why it works, because we have been doing it for a very long time.

Our philosophy has always been to do everything possible to strengthen and protect our body’s largest organ, the skin. As we age, our fibroblast activity slows down and our dermal barrier becomes increasingly compromised. The SkinPen, and many of our other treatments, are designed to help build, nurture, and protect the skin.

What is the SkinPen micro-needling and how does it work?

The SkinPen is a state of the art precision tool designed to stimulate your skin’s natural ability to produce new collagen. New collagen production can reverse years of sun damage, address fine lines and wrinkles, skin tone, texture, acne scars, hyper-pigmenation, stretch marks, as well as enhance the overall appearance of the skin.

What areas of the body can I treat?SkinPen is extremely versatile and can be used on all parts of the body: face, neck, décolletage, arms, hand, legs, abdomen and back.

Who is a candidate?

The SkinPen treatment uses non-thermal, fractionated technology to approach skin rejuvenation. Unlike energy-based procedures that use chromophones or heat, SkinPen uses sterile, disposable needle cartridges that deliver multi-speed to allow for increased effectiveness for your unique skin needs. This allows SkinPen to be used for a wider range of patient types, including patients with darker skin types.

How is the procedure done?

First, a topical numbing cream is applied to make the procedure more comfortable. Then, a sterile and disposable cartridge containing micro-needles is attached to the tip of the SkinPen. A thin layer of topical serum is applied to your skin and the appropriate micro-needling channeling treatment depth is selected for your unique type of skin. Next, in a gentle motion, the pen is glided across the targeted repair areas. The unique design of the SkinPen allows for individualized settings, which makes the treatment very comfortable for most everyone. The procedure takes 45-75 minutes depending on areas treated.

What is the downtime Immediately following the procedure you will notice a healthy pink glow. We will recommend products to accelerate you skin’s natural healing process. Some heal completely in 24 hours, others are pink for a couple of days. There will be some gentle sloughing of top layer of skin at day 3 or 4 post treatment. There is virtually no social downtime as make-up can be applied to conceal any redness.

When will I see results?

While multiple sessions are recommended to achieve optimal results, noticeable results are typically seen just one week following treatment and gradually improve as the body’s healing process promotes the production of healthy, new cells and the production of collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid.

How many treatments will I need?Patients with uneven skin-tone and fine lines may see a result after just one treatment, while those looking to soften the appearance of acne scarring may require several treatments. For most, a series of 2-3 treatments are recommended 4-5 weeks apart, for those with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, acne scars, or stretch marks, a series of 6-8 treatments every 6 weeks is recommended.
